Sacramento Kings' Key Trade Target Could Have Lowered Value This Offseason

The Sacramento Kings have had an interesting season thus far and they are currently holding onto their playoff lives.

Sacramento had a terrible start to the season, which caused them to make some major changes. It began with them firing their head coach in December and they then traded away their star point guard De’Aaron Fox to the San Antonio Spurs ahead of the trade deadline.

Of course, the Kings did receive Zach LaVine from the Chicago Bulls in the Fox trade as well, and he has been a great fit thus far.

Despite this, the Kings may see another early playoff exit this season as their roster is still trying to figure things out. Because of this, they may look to upgrade their roster in the offseason and one of their top trade targets from this season may have a reduced asking price in the summer.

The Kings’ top trade target ahead of the deadline was Cameron Johnson of the Brooklyn Nets. Despite this, they were unwilling to meet Brooklyn’s asking price for him and they ended up backing out of trade talks.

That could change in the offseason though as Johnson’s asking price is expected to decrease.

According to Forbes Evan Sidery, Johnson is expected to have a significant amount of trade interest in the offseason and many rival teams believe that the Nets will lower their asking price of two first-round picks.

If this were to happen, expect the Kings to once again have discussions with the Nets for Johnson to upgrade their roster and forward depth.

The 29-year-old would be a great fit with the Kings and would provide them with another reliable scorer. Johnson is a great three-point shooter and he has also improved on the defensive side of the ball.

Of course, the Kings will have a ton of decisions to make in the offseason surrounding their roster and head coaching spot, so they may elect to go a different route instead of reopening trade talks with the Nets about Johnson.
