The Sacramento Kings are still looking for point guard help, and they’re reportedly interested in acquiring soon-to-be-free agent Russell Westbrook. The team was also linked with Tyus Jones , who played for the Phoenix Suns this year.
“Fellow free agents Tyus Jones and Russell Westbrook are also known to be options that the Kings are considering,” Sam Amick of The Athletic reported. “Free agency formally begins at 6 p.m. Eastern on Monday. Beyond the point guard vacancy, though, league sources say the Kings are open for business when it comes to discussing the various possibilities with their roster.”
Westbrook will reportedly decline his $3.5 million player option this summer after playing for the Denver Nuggets in 2024-25. The one-time league MVP averaged 13.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, 6.1 assists, and 1.4 steals on 44.9 percent shooting from the field across 75 regular season games (36 starts).
He was previously linked with a sensational “big money” move to Hapoel Tel Aviv in Europe. However, such reports were recently debunked by their general manager, George Hinas.
According to The Athletic’s Sam Amick, the Sacramento Kings have “no plans” to prioritize a new deal for Zach LaVine, who’s eligible for a new contract extension this summer.
“While the 30-year-old, two-time All-Star is extension-eligible this summer, team and league sources say there are no plans for the Kings to prioritize a new deal for LaVine,” Amick wrote. “If they’re going to pay that sort of freight, it’s quite clear, it will be for a younger player who can be a long-term part of their picture.”
The former Slam Dunk champion will earn roughly $47.5 million next season before he can trigger his $49 million player option in the summer of 2026. LaVine averaged 22.4 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 3.8 assists on 51/45/87 shooting splits across 32 regular season games for Sacramento.
