The San Antonio Spurs and Washington Wizards agreed to a blockbuster trade on Tuesday evening. Washington traded Kelly Olynyk to the San Antonio Spurs in exchange for Malaki Branham, Blake Wesley, and a 2026 second-round pick (least favorable of Dallas, Philadelphia, Oklahoma City).

Olynyk had a strong regular season as a contributor to the Toronto Raptors and New Orleans Pelicans. He averaged 8.7 points, 4.7 boards, and 2.9 assists during the 2024-25 regular season. Branham averaged 5 points per game in a limited role with the Spurs. Wesley averaged 3.7 points in just over 11 minutes per game. They will look to reach their full potential with the Wizards. As the centerpiece of the deal, how will Olynyk fit with the San Antonio Spurs?

San Antonio Spurs Season Outlook

It has been a strong offseason for the Spurs. They drafted Dylan Harper No. 2 overall in the 2025 NBA Draft. They also signed Luke Kornet as a free agent. Olynyk joins a talented Spurs roster that includes Victor Wembanyama, De’Aaron Fox, and reigning Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle

Final Thoughts

Olynyk is an important depth piece for a young team looking to take the next step in 2025. He will presumably be a backup who will look to make an impact coming off the bench. The San Antonio Spurs have a great roster. Olynyk will look to help put the team over the top.
