San Antonio Spurs Fans Will Love Victor Wembanyama’s 1 Promise To Close The Season
Stephen Lew-USA TODAY Sports

San Antonio Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama has no plans of coasting to close out his first NBA season.

With 5 games left in the season, the 19-58 Spurs are completely out of the playoff picture. But despite that, Wembanyama has every intention to finish his first campaign strong.

Victor Wembanyama Affirms Commitment To San Antonio Spurs Fans

Wembanyama was asked about his intention to play out the season after the Spurs’ 111-109 win Friday over the New Orleans Pelicans.

The Frenchman saw his need to play as a “responsibility” to both the organization he plays for and the fans who support them.

“I made a commitment to this team,” Wemby said, via Tom Orsborn of San Antonio Express-News. “I have a responsibility towards the organization and the team and the fans, so there’s no reason to sit out.”

Wemby finished Friday’s contest with 17 points, 12 rebounds, 9 assists, and 3 blocks on 5/12 shooting from the field.

Wemby Remains Healthy — And Eager — To Play

A handful of observers were skeptical of Wemby’s ability to stay healthy given his otherworldly physique. However, the 7’5″ freak of nature has managed to avoid any serious injuries throughout his first NBA season.

Wembanyama has played in 68 games and counting. He’ll more than likely surpass the 70-game plateau in his first NBA campaign — a feat Zion Williamson has yet to match in his fourth season.

But beyond the ability to simply stay healthy, Wembanyama has shown that he’s not the type of player to lean on load management, unlike another star player Spurs fans are familiar with. Wembanyama seems to want all the smoke

Despite no longer having postseason aspirations this season, Wembanyama has continued to post eye-popping stat lines on a nightly basis. It won’t be long before those numbers come in more meaningful contests for the 20-year-old Spurs prodigy.
