San Antonio Spurs’ True Feelings on Potential Victor Wembanyama-Trae Young Partnership, Revealed
Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

There is no doubt that the San Antonio Spurs will be active in the offseason as they look to build their team around Victor Wembanyama . A new point guard appears to be atop this team’s priority list in the offseason, with Atlanta Hawks superstar Trae Young rumored to be a potential trade candidate for the Spurs.

As it turns out, however, the Spurs brass might not be too hot on the three-time All-Star.

San Antonio Spurs News: Trae Young Not Seen as Good Fit Alongside Victor Wembanyama

Despite rumblings of Young making his way to San Antonio in the offseason, NBA insider Kurt Helin of NBC Sports recently reported that the high-profile Hawks guard does not seem to fit in with the Spurs’ long-term plans:

Spurs fans have been buzzing about the team getting in the mix for a Trae Young trade this summer, as he is the most acclaimed point guard likely to be available. League sources have told NBC Sports not to bet on that happening, as San Antonio doesn’t see Young as a fit with Wembanyama going forward,” reported Helin.

Multiple reports have indicated that the Hawks could make Young available this summer, but it now appears that San Antonio will not be one of the teams that will be lining up for the services of the 25-year-old.

Dejounte Murray Back in San Antonio?

As it turns out, the Spurs might actually be eyeing Atlanta’s other star guard, Dejounte Murray. Helin added in his report that San Antonio “might be more interested” in Young’s backcourt partner as a potential summer recruit.

Murray spent the first six seasons of his career with the Spurs, and it appears that Gregg Popovich would welcome a potential reunion with his prodigal son. Murray himself has spoken very highly of Coach Pop and revealed that he remains extremely close with his former coach.

As such, it now appears that if the Spurs were going to swoop in on Atlanta’s backcourt, the name to watch would be Dejounte Murray.
