It’s official. San Antonio Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama has been named the 2023-24 NBA Rookie of the Year.
We all knew this was coming after Wemby turned in an iconic debut season, but the news was made official on Monday night as the league announced that Wembanyama has beaten out Chet Holmgren and Brandon Miller for the coveted title.
Wembanyama joins an elite group of all-time greats that have come before him now that he has been named the NBA Rookie of the Year. LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Allen Iverson, Vince Carter, and Shaquille O’Neal are just some of the biggest names that once lifted this trophy as well.
On Tuesday, Fanatics published a video wherein they set up an exhibit featuring these aforementioned legends from both the past and the present. As it turns out, it was all intended to honor Wemby:
We figured a historic rookie season deserved some historic Rookie of the Year surprises. Congrats, @Wemby. #ROTY #PorVida #NBA pic.twitter.com/WqiuRCTdKZ

You can clearly see Wembanyama getting emotional as he listened to the heartfelt congratulatory messages from the past Rookie of the Year winners. This honor is a testament to the hard work and sacrifice this young man has put in through the years, and it’s great to see the Spurs superstar take it all in.
As LeBron said, though, this is only the beginning for Wembanyama. This young man is only going to get better from here on out, and I’m not entirely sure if the league is ready for what’s to come.
