San Antonio Spus Could Create A New Big Three With Kevin Durant, De'Aaron Fox, And Victor Wembanyama

As the San Antonio Spurs close another losing season, there is increasing suspicion that they have grand plans to increase their title odds moving forward. According to one NBA insider, the Spurs are now involved in rumors involving Kevin Durant as the third and final member of a potential big three.

“There have been whispers among league personnel about the possibility of the Spurs pursuing Durant and creating the best offensive trio in the league next to Fox and Wembanyama," wrote Brett Siegel.

The ascension of Victor Wembanyama has put pressure on the Spurs to build a team that can compete, but the process hasn't been easy. With averages of 24.3 points, 11.0 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game on 47.6% shooting, Victor was more than pulling his weight, but he's been shut down this season after the doctors discovered blood clots in his shoulder.

Without Victor, the Spurs are hopelessly lost and doomed to play out the rest of another wasted season. At 31-41, they are 13 in the West and five games out of the final play-in spot. Only with the addition of a proven star can the Spurs hope to compete with the likes of the Nuggets and Thunder, which is where Kevin Durant comes into play.

The 36-year-old forward is on his last stand with the Suns, and the season is slipping fast. Even with most of their core healthy, the Suns are struggling to keep up in the standings at 35-39 (11th in the West). They gave up a massive haul to bring Durant, Beal, and Booker together, but it was all in vain after failing to win 40 games five months into the season.

After hearing his name in rumors this season, Durant knew it was only a matter of time before he was traded, and it seems this summer will be the one where he finds yet another NBA home.

What better place to start over than with the Spurs, where he can play alongside two rising superstars for one of the most well-respected franchises in the league. If not the Spurs, another young team in the East could emerge as a suitor...

Atlanta Hawks Are Darkhorse Contenders For Kevin Durant

The Atlanta Hawks have been a team stuck in purgatory for some time now, but a trade for someone like Durant (2x NBA champion) might be exactly what they need to revitalize the team.

According to Brett Siegel, the Hawks are also a team in the running for Durant. While they lack the assets to make a compelling offer, look for GM Landry Fields to be aggressive in the pursuit of star talent.

"One surprise team that pursued Durant hard at the trade deadline with other teams making calls to Phoenix was the Atlanta Hawks," wrote Siegel. The Hawks, who were also in trade discussions with the New Orleans Pelicans on a deal centered around Brandon Ingram before he was traded to the Toronto Raptors, have been searching for another star to play alongside Trae Young."

With averages of 24.1 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 11.4 assists per game on 41.2% shooting, Trae Young has been the only bright spot for the Hawks this season, and he needs help if they want to stand a chance in the playoffs.

Adding Durant would give them another proven scorer to help raise their ceiling and potentially make them a top team in the East alongside the Celtics or Cavaliers. The question is, are they willing to risk him potentially leaving in 2026, at the end of his final year, worth $54.7 million?

One way or another, Kevin Durant will be moved this summer. Where he lands ultimately depends on which team is willing to pay the most and help the Suns recoup some of their lost assets.
