Kevin Durant is officially headed to Houston. And he’s not going alone.

The Rockets have finalized a record-setting seven-team trade that not only lands them the former MVP but also veteran big man Clint Capela in a sign-and-trade with Atlanta, the teams announced in a flurry of press releases Friday.

“Having played against Kevin and coached him before, I know he’s the type of competitor who fits with what we’ve been building here in Houston,” coach Ime Udoka said in a statement. “His skill level, love of basketball, and dedication to his craft have made him one of the most respected players of his generation, and my staff and I are excited to work with him.”

Durant, 36, joins a rising Rockets team after the Suns pivoted toward youth in a sweeping multi-team exchange that rewrites the record books. The deal includes a staggering seven franchises — Houston, Phoenix, Atlanta, Brooklyn, Golden State, Minnesota, and the Lakers — making it the largest trade by team count in NBA history.

Full details of the transaction:

Rockets receive:

  • Kevin Durant (from Suns)

  • Clint Capela (sign-and-trade; from Hawks)

Suns receive:

Lakers receive:

Warriors receive:

  • Draft rights to Alex Toohey (No. 52; from Suns)

  • Draft rights to Jahmai Mashack (No. 59; from Rockets; being sent to Memphis in a follow-up deal)

Timberwolves receive:

  • Draft rights to Rocco Zikarsky (No. 45; from Lakers)

  • Two second-round picks: one in 2026 (least favorable of Warriors/Nuggets), one in 2032 (most favorable of Suns/Rockets)

  • Cash from the Lakers

Nets receive:

  • A 2026 second-round pick (least favorable of Clippers or Celtics/Pacers/Heat grouping)

  • Boston’s 2030 second-round pick (from Rockets)

Hawks receive:

  • David Roddy (from Rockets)

  • 2031 second-round pick swap rights with Houston

  • Cash from the Rockets

The bones of this deal were in place for days, but multiple draft-night trades were rolled into the Durant blockbuster to complete it all in one shot. That included previous agreements between the Suns and Nets, Warriors, Timberwolves, and a separate Lakers-Timberwolves deal.

Capela’s sign-and-trade was the final piece, helping Houston absorb his three-year, $21 million contract without needing to send out additional matching salary.

The only newly introduced pieces were Plowden and Roddy, both on two-way contracts. Plowden is being waived by Phoenix, per Duane Rankin of the Arizona Republic, and the Hawks will fill his former slot with Roddy, a former first-rounder who already saw meaningful minutes for Atlanta last season.

As far as NBA trades go, this one is a marathon. But the big picture remains clear: the Rockets added a future Hall of Famer and a veteran rim protector, the Suns jump-started a youth movement, and six other teams got something out of the process.

Now it’s time to see how it all plays out.
