Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had a dominant Game 5 against the Minnesota Timberwolves. In the closeout game, SGA put up numbers of 34 points, seven rebounds, eight assists, and two steals.

SGA’s performance for the entire series won him the Western Conference Finals MVP Award. In this series, Gilgeous-Alexander averaged 31.4 points, 5.2 rebounds, 8.2 assists, and 1.8 steals per game.

SGA was clearly the best player on the floor. He also proved why he was deserving of the MVP over Nikola Jokic.

Still, the ultimate prize is winning an NBA championship. Gilgeous-Alexander has his Thunder only four wins away from achieving this goal.

SGA’s impressive achievement

The stat line Gilgeous-Alexander achieved in Game 5 against the Timberwolves was special because it placed him in unique company. SGA became one of three players in NBA history to have 10 or more games of at least 30 points and five assists in a single postseason.

The other two are Michael Jordan and LeBron James. MJ did it three times and LeBron achieved this feat three times as well.

If SGA can continue his incredible play, he may join Jordan and LeBron on another list: players who’ve won an NBA championship.

If this happens, he’ll likely win Finals MVP, which will add another similarity to Jordan and LeBron.
