Including Tuesday's game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, Shaedon Sharpe has now missed seven straight games for the Portland Trail Blazers due to a calf injury.
In an unfortunate turn, however, Sharpe isn't returning to the team any time soon following a new injury that will keep him sidelined for the next month, at the very least.
According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, imaging revealed a "stress reaction" in Sharpe's left fibula. As a result, he will have to sit out the next four to six weeks to recover from the injury.
"Portland Trail Blazers say Shaedon Sharpe has a stress reaction of the left fibula, imaging revealed," Scotto shared. "Sharpe will be re-evaluated in approximately 4-6 weeks to allow for adequate healing before beginning a progressive return to full basketball activity."
As indicated in the update, Sharpe's return after four to six weeks isn't necessarily a given. He will have to undergo rehab and do some on-court activities, highlighting the possibility that his absence could be extended.
There's also a chance he could miss the remainder of the regular season. Should Sharpe need only four weeks to heal and a bit of time to recover, he could return to action by the end of March and still help the Blazers make a push for the postseason in their remaining games.
Should he need the full six weeks and more time to rehab, there won't be enough time for him to rejoin the Blazers before the regular season ends. Portland's last game of the season is on April 12 against the Sacramento Kings.
Sharpe is the team's second-best scorer behind All-Star forward Deni Avdija. He's averaging 21.4 points on 45.6% shooting, along with 4.4 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.4 steals per game.
With that said, Sharpe's absence is certainly a painful blow to a Blazers team looking to contend for a playoff spot in the Western Conference.
Entering Tuesday's game against the Timberwolves, the Blazers are 28-30 on the season, good for the ninth seed in the West. However, they are only half a game ahead of the 10th-seeded Los Angeles Clippers and six games above the No. 11 Memphis Grizzlies.
Sharpe's injury update also comes at an inopportune time for Portland. Avdija is currently dealing with a back issue and missed their game against the Timberwolves.
If Avdija's injury persists, the Blazers will have to find ways to fill the hole in their offense left by the two.
