Shai Gilgeous-Alexander eclipses Michael Jordan, LeBron James record

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's legacy continues to grow in real time.

On Monday, the reigning MVP joined Hall of Famers Michael Jordan (1992), Hakeem Olajuwon (1995) and Kobe Bryant (2009) as only the fourth player to score 30+ points at least 15 times in a playoff run.

But SGA's impact goes beyond just scoring: he wins games with his playmaking, defense and hustle. In Monday's Game 5 win, he had four blocks, two steals and 10 assists to go with his 31 points, becoming the first player ever to record those numbers in a Finals game.

The Toronto native has consistently stuffed the stat sheet in Thunder's dominant playoff run, tallying 638 points, 114 rebounds, 136 assists, 37 steals and 18 blocks across 21 playoff games thus far.

Along the way, he has broken a longstanding record held by Jordan and LeBron James for most 30-point, five-assist games in a postseason run. Jordan (2x) and James (3x) reached the mark on multiple occasions but topped out at 11. On Monday, SGA reached the threshold for the 12th time this postseason, setting a brand new NBA record.

The impressive part of SGA's performance on Monday was his willingness to defer to Jalen Williams and score within the flow of the offense. With Pacers guard Andrew Nembhard hounding him through screens, SGA attempted only six shots in the first half, but found other ways to help his team, specifically with his playmaking and defense.

SGA's 10 assists were tied for the most in a game this postseason. Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault praised his superstar's ability to excel as a playmaker, a part of his game that is often overlooked.

"He's getting better every year in just about everything," Daigneault said of SGA, via NBA.com's Shaun Powell. "I think he's really improved as a playmaker. He's learned when teams load up on him and they over-commit, to get off it early, and I think that's reflected in the way we've played offense throughout the course of the season."

If Gilgeous-Alexander wins the Finals MVP, he'll join Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (1971), Michael Jordan (1991, 1992, 1996, 1998) and Shaquille O'Neal (2000) as only the fourth player to win the scoring title, MVP and Finals MVP in the same season. The feat would firmly establish the 26-year-old guard as an all-time great player.
