The Oklahoma City Thunder knocked off the recent NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday with a 125-93 win over the Denver Nuggets at Paycom Center.
The Thunder's rising duo of Jalen Williams and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander paved the road to victory as they scored a combined 49 points on the afternoon.
Following the game, Thunder big man and former Gonzaga Bulldog Chet Holmgren found himself in front of a microphone with plenty to say about his young teammate.
Holmgren offered up an MVP boast as he spoke on the OKC superstar's regular season and playoff performances in an enthusiastic way.
"You know who this is? The MVP," Holmgren said on television Sunday after Gilgeous-Alexander's big game.
The Thunder overcame a first quarter deficit with an explosive 39-point second quarter, continuing their tendency to put up points in a hurry at home.
They outscored the Nuggets by 11 and 7 points in the third and fourth quarters, outlasting and wearing out their visitors from Colorado as Oklahoma City's superior depth proved too much for Nikola Jokic's team.
The NBA MVP award has not yet been announced. Fans took to the comments section to share their thoughts on Holmgren's words.
"Credits to the whole team. He has good teammates," one fan stated.
Another was not so positive after the big Thunder home W.
"A team that has a six man rotation took them to Game 7," another fan said.
"They aren't ready for Minnesota or anyone in the East."
