Shake Milton Clears Waivers, Enters Free Agency

Veteran NBA guard Shake Milton officially cleared waivers Tuesday after being released by the Los Angeles Lakers, per the RealGM transactions log.

Milton is now an unrestricted free agent and likely to draw a fair amount of interest ahead of training camp in the fall. He’s proven to be a reliable backup point guard in previous stops; that much we know.

Milton, 28, spent the second half of last season with the Lakers after a short stint with the Detroit Pistons. He appeared in 21 games for L.A. and was viewed as backcourt depth more than a long-term piece.

That’s pretty much been the story of his career thus far.

Anyway, the Lakers released Milton to help create room for incoming veteran guard Marcus Smart, who agreed to a contract buyout with the Washington Wizards. Smart also cleared waivers on Wednesday.

Milton averaged 3.9 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in 30 games last season.
