Shannon Sharpe Knows What’s to Blame for Joel Embiid’s ‘Downfall’

Joel Embiid is as talented as any basketball player on the planet. Embiid's problem, however, is staying on the court. Many great players careers have been derailed by injuries and health problems, and through the first nine seasons of Embiid's career, he has missed almost as many games as he's played in.

Embiid has played in 450 games, while missing 404 games due to injuries and other reasons since being selected with the third overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. With the Philadelphia 76ers in a full tailspin this season, Shannon Sharpe says he knows what's to blame for Embiid's downfall:

Yes, Shannon Sharpe is actually blaming McDonald's for Joel Embiid's injury prone career. During Wednesday morning's First Take on ESPN, Sharpe went off on Embiid and the 76ers:

“Peak Embiid wasted peak Embiid because he never took his diet and nutrition seriously,” said Sharpe. “He limped into the NBA. Why did he fall to the pick he fell to? He had a bad back. And instead of losing weight and trimming down to take pressure off that back, take pressure off those knees, take pressure off those ankles, what did he do? He thought it was cute to be sitting on the table eating McDonald’s, eating fast food."

Sharpe didn't stop at Embiid. He took what sounded like final shots at the 76ers as well:

"I can eat this here and bust everybody’s, you know what. But in the end, it came back. The process? All this is a process of elimination. It is over for the Sixers."

The 76ers have now lost five games in a row and sit in 11th place in the Eastern Conference with a record of 20-34. With Paul George having the worst season of his career, Tyrese Maxey is the lone bright spot in the Philadelphia darkness. And it's a wonder the 76ers opted to sign Embiid to a three-year, $192.9 million maximum contract extension prior to the 2024 season.
