Shaquille O’Neal Drops Truth On What It’s Like Facing Prime Michael Jordan

Shaquille O’Neal is regarded as one of the most dominant players on both ends of the court in NBA history. However, the Los Angeles Lakers legend got real and shared what it was like to face Michael Jordan in the prime of his career.

O’Neal first entered the league as the Orlando Magic’s top pick in the 1992 Draft. From there, the young center played 81 games that year with averages of 23.4 points, 13.9 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 3.5 blocks on a nightly basis.

The All-Star big man would eventually make his way to the Los Angeles Lakers after spending four seasons in Orlando. Later on, he was joined by Phil Jackson after guiding the Chicago Bulls to a second three-peat with a core of Jordan, Scottie Pippen, and Dennis Rodman. During his time wearing the Purple and Gold, O’Neal paired up with the late Kobe Bryant and win three rings with him.

After his time in Los Angeles, O’Neal won one more ring with a young Dwyane Wade-led Miami Heat team in 1996. The All-Star would go on to play for several more teams until he retired from the NBA in 2011. In the end, the big man amassed four rings, three Finals MVPs, one regular season MVP, two scoring titles, and 15 All-Star Game selections.

As great as O’Neal was during his time in the league, the current NBA analyst revealed how better Jordan was in his prime during an interview with JJ Reddick. In a video shared by The Big Podcast on X:

Over the course of his 15 seasons in the NBA, 13 with the Bulls and two with the Washington Wizards, Jordan averaged 30.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 2.3 steals per game. Apart from his six rings, the Chicago legend also won five regular season MVPs, six Finals MVPs, 10 scoring titles, one Defensive Player of the Year award, Rookie of the Year in 1985, and 14 All-Star Game selections, among others.

While most people don’t know how dominant Jordan was in his prime, O’Neal’s account will shed light on how great he was during his time in the league. With all of the things he has accomplished, Hir Airness definitely belongs in the GOAT conversation.
