Kelly Oubre Jr. is staying in Philadelphia for now.
The 76ers wing has picked up his $8.4 million player option for the 2025-26 season, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. The option was part of the two-year deal Oubre signed last summer. He is now set to become a free agent in 2026.
Oubre, 29, averaged 15.1 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists over 60 games this past season, logging 34.6 minutes per night while shooting 47 percent from the field, 29.3 percent from deep and 75.1 percent from the free throw line.
His season ended early in March due to a sprained right knee, and he did not return after March 12. The Sixers leaned heavily into their youth down the stretch, sitting several veterans as they looked to improve their lottery odds.
A report last month indicated the Sixers were expecting Oubre, Andre Drummond and Eric Gordon to all exercise their options. Drummond made it official on Friday. Gordon has until later today to decide on his $3.5 million option.
These option decisions carry real weight for the Sixers’ cap sheet. Philadelphia is hoping to re-sign free agents Quentin Grimes and Guerschon Yabusele while avoiding a heavy luxury tax hit. To do that, it’s possible that Oubre, Drummond or Gordon could be moved in a cost-cutting trade.
Philadelphia was a major disappointment last season following the continued injuries suffered by Joel Embiid and the questionable fit in Year One of Paul George.
