Sixers waive former G League MVP Trevelin Queen

As the Philadelphia 76ers approach the beginning of the regular season, the team must first begin the difficult task of trimming their roster to 17 (15 NBA players and two two-way players). The Sixers have begun that process by parting ways with Trevelin Queen, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer’s Keith Pompey.

Queen was one of the Sixers’ early offseason acquisitions just a few months ago, and he seemingly was a perfect fit for what they were looking for. A freak athlete with the heart of a dawg, Queen was even a former member of the Houston Rockets organization.

Trevelin Queen joined the aforementioned Rockets franchise after going undrafted in the 2020 NBA draft and spent nearly all of his time with their G League affiliate, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. In 2021, he signed a two-way contract with the Houston Rockets.

He went on to have a very strong season for the Vipers in 2021, averaging 25.3 points, 6.7 rebounds, 5.2 assists, and 3.2 steals. Those strong numbers were enough to have Queen be named G League MVP as he led the Vipers to the G League championship, where they would defeat the Delaware Blue Coats.

The Sixers signed Queen to a two-year, $3.5 million deal ($330,000 guaranteed) back in June. It was a low-risk, solid reward move for Philadelphia, and while it admittedly did not pan out, it was certainly worth the attempt.

There is no word yet on Queen’s next move, but there remains a possibility that he could remain with the Sixers organization and play for the Delaware Blue Coats this season.
