Skip Bayless: Chet Holmgren was 'completely outplayed' by Keegan Murray in Summer League game

The Oklahoma City Thunder and Sacramento Kings squared off with one another in the NBA's Summer League on Wednesday night. It was a meaningless game, but it did give fans the opportunity to see two of the top five players from this past NBA Draft, Chet Holmgren and Keegan Murray, go head-to-head.

Holmgren, Oklahoma City's No. 2 overall pick, finished the game with eight points on 3-of-8 shooting from the field, five rebounds, five steals and three assists.

Murray, who went to the Kings with the No. 4 pick, scored 29 points on 9-of-17 shooting from the field with seven rebounds, four steals and two assists.

The end score, and ultimately everything else in Summer League, was meaningless.

With that said, if you're box-score watching, it seems clear that Murray outplayed Holmgren.

That's if you're just looking at box scores, though. That's also if you take Summer League — a glorified scrimmage — and turn it into something more than it is.

Like Skip Bayless predictably did:

Bayless is telling a 20-year-old rookie to "quit shrinking" in a meaningless scrimmage. He's getting on Holmgren for being "completely outplayed" in a game that meant nothing. It's a step above practice.

Summer League is a chance for these young stars to get their feet wet and get used to the speed of the NBA game, and nothing more than that.

Sure, Murray filled up the stat sheet and Holmgren appeared to be a bit underwhelming, but if you're dishing out hot takes on the Summer League...chances are you're going to look foolish.
