Skip Bayless Takes Subtle Dig at LeBron James After Michigan Wolverines Title Win Over UConn Huskies

Skip Bayless has never hesitated to speak his mind when it comes to criticism. Bayless has been pretty brutal with his comments. His focus on dissing LeBron James every now and then never seems to go away.

The long-term sports analyst who has mostly been hunting down leagues’ biggest superstars recently dropped another bold comment on the Michigan Wolverines’ 2026 NCAA championship victory and linked it back to the Los Angeles Lakers superstar.

“It’s extremely difficult to win a national championship game getting outshot from 3 by 9-2 and losing the boards by 7. But Michigan prevailed by making 25-28 free throws. You watching, LeBron?” Bayless tweeted shortly after Michigan defeated the UConn Huskies 69-63 in the NCAA title game.

The comment, however, referenced Michigan’s unlikely path to victory. Despite UConn outshooting from beyond the arc and making them lose the rebounding battle, the Wolverines controlled the game at the free-throw line, converting 25 of 28 attempts to secure their second national title, also the Big Ten’s first since 2000.

On the court, Michigan’s performance showed discipline as the Wolverines held UConn to just 31 percent shooting from the field and 27 percent from three. Alex Karaban paced the Huskies with 17 points, but foul trouble and turnovers prevented any sustained comeback.

However, this was the performance Bayless wants the Lakers superstar to note and replicate for his team in times of need. The suggestion, or an otherwise subtle dig for LeBron and LA, comes at a time when they’re punching air despite ranking among the top teams in the highly competitive WC. Injuries to it’s free throw machines make it a sour joyride, and that’s where the analyst wants the veteran to step up and lead.

Skip Bayless Challenges LeBron James Amid Lakers Injury-Ridden Roster

The Los Angeles Lakers’ late-season outlook has shifted sharply following injuries to Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves, and Skip Bayless has again used the moment to put the spotlight squarely on LeBron James.

Reaves will miss four to six weeks with a Grade 2 oblique injury, while Doncic is also out after suffering a hamstring issue in the same 139-96 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The timing leaves Los Angeles without two of its top offensive options heading into the final stretch and likely the start of the playoffs.

“OH, NO: NOW AUSTIN REAVES IS GONE, TOO??? LEBRON, NOW YOU HAVE A CHANCE TO DO SOMETHING TRULY LEGENDARY – TAKE YOUR LAKERS ON A PLAYOFF RUN…” he wrote.

The challenge comes as the Lakers try to hold onto the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference. Their cushion has narrowed after consecutive losses, despite previously winning 16 of 18 games.

LeBron James has already shifted back into a primary role, but when you’re a superstar veteran of that status, expectations automatically tank up.
