Sources: Golden State Warriors Still Expected to Sign Al Horford

Entering NBA free agency, the expectation was that Al Horford would land with the Golden State Warriors and not return to the Boston Celtics.

While Horford has not yet formally agreed to a contract to join the Warriors, sources tell fellow DallasHoopsJournal.com writer Grant Afseth that Horford is still expected to land in Golden State.

Even with the Celtics trading Kristaps Porziņģis to the Atlanta Hawks and following Luke Kornet‘s departure to the San Antonio Spurs, those developments were never thought to impact Horford’s situation going into free agency.

The Warriors lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the second round of the 2025 NBA playoffs in five games after beating the Houston Rockets in the first round in seven games. Stephen Curry suffered a hamstring injury in Game 1 against Minnesota and missed the rest of the series.

Horford helped the Celtics win the 2024 NBA championship against the Dallas Mavericks in five games. He’s played for the Atlanta Hawks, Celtics (twice), Philadelphia 76ers, and Oklahoma City Thunder.

A five-time All-Star, Horford played in 60 games for the Celtics last season. He averaged 9.0 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists while shooting 42.3% from the field, 36.3% from beyond the arc, and 89.5% from the foul line.

The Celtics lost to the New York Knicks in the second round of the postseason in six games.

Horford, 39, has career averages of 12.9 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 3.2 assists. His Celtics lost to the Warriors in the 2022 NBA Finals in six games.

Golden State’s current core is Curry, Draymond Green, and Jimmy Butler. The Warriors acquired Butler from the Miami Heat last season after Butler requested a trade from the Miami Heat.
