The San Antonio Spurs are hoping to continue their hot start to the NBA season during their Sunday afternoon game against the Sacramento Kings (4 p.m. ET). The franchise has opened the season with an 8-4 record, the fifth-best record in the Western Conference. French center Victor Wembanyama has been the key driver of their success.

Wembanyama has already proven to the world that he belongs in the highest echelon of active NBA players, despite being in just his third season and having played zero playoff minutes in his career. He has been a game-changing defensive prospect since his first NBA game, but now he's producing at an All-NBA level on the offensive end as well.

In 12 games this season, Wembanyama has averaged 26.2 points, 12.9 rebounds, 4 assists, 1.1 steals and 3.6 blocks per game. Unfortunately, he was listed as questionable with a calf injury for the clash against the Kings. With just a few hours left before tip-off, Spurs head coach Mitch Johnson confirmed Wembanyama will sit out the game Sunday.

Wembanyama joins rookie guard Dylan Harper (calf) on the injury list. David Jones Garcia (G League) and Riley Minix (G League) will also be unavailable for selection.

Meanwhile, the Kings will be without Dylan Cardwell (two-way), Devin Carter (illness), Keegan Murray (thumb) and Daeqwon Plowden (G League). Domantas Sabonis (rib) and Precious Achiuwa (illness) are still listed as questionable.

The Spurs are on a two-game losing skid, with their last outing ending as a 109-108 loss to the Golden State Warriors.

The Kings (3-10) have struggled all season, losing their last game 124-110 to the Minnesota Timberwolves. They will be looking to capitalize on Wembanyama's absence and hand the Spurs their third straight loss while reversing their personal fortunes.
