The San Antonio Spurs remain one of the most dangerous teams in the NBA, led by superstar big man Victor Wembanyama, who has emerged as the league’s best two‑way player.
Through 51 appearances this season, the 22‑year‑old French phenom has averaged 24.2 points, 11.1 rebounds, 2.9 assists and a league‑best 3.0 blocks, well on his way to leading the NBA in blocks for the third straight year.
He is shooting 50.6% from the field and a career-high 36.0% from beyond the arc, continuing to elevate his game in his third season since being selected first overall in the 2023 NBA Draft. At the same time, the roster around him has grown significantly, as San Antonio possesses one of the deepest backcourts in the league.
However, it has not been a perfect season for Wembanyama, who has dealt with multiple injuries. He missed time with a left calf strain in November and later with a left knee hyperextension.
As a result, Wembanyama is dangerously close to falling short of the NBA’s 65‑game minimum requirement for major awards. And on Wednesday, that path became even more complicated.
San Antonio announced its latest injury report and added Wembanyama with right ankle soreness ahead of Thursday’s matchup with the Denver Nuggets, the first time this issue has appeared and a completely new injury.
It is unclear whether he suffered the injury during Tuesday’s win over the Boston Celtics, a game in which he dominated with 39 points, 11 rebounds and three assists across 37 minutes. Wembanyama was given a questionable designation, indicating there is still a chance he plays through the soreness (h/t Jared Weiss of The Athletic).
Victor Wembanyama is questionable for tomorrow’s matchup against the Denver Nuggets with right ankle soreness. Harrison Barnes is also questionable to return from a left ankle impingement that has held him out for the past week.

Wembanyama’s health remains essential to San Antonio’s hopes of making a deep playoff run. He is already a former Rookie of the Year and two‑time All‑Star, and he has fully lived up to the massive expectations that followed him into the league.
The Spurs know that everything they hope to accomplish this season, and in the years ahead, hinges on keeping their franchise superstar on the floor and performing at an MVP level.
