Spurs' Chris Paul Shares Emotional Message to Victor Wembanyama

This past week was a whirlwind of emotions for the San Antonio Spurs, but especially Victor Wembanyama. The Spurs went 1-1 against the Indiana Pacers, taking turns blowing each other out in games in Accor Arena in Paris in front of Wembanyama's friends, family, and fans.

The Spurs signed veteran point guard and all-time great Chris Paul this summer for a one-year deal. The main reason for the signing was simply to offer Wembanyama a steady hand both on and off the court, although Paul, like Wembanyama, values winning above all else.

Before and after both games, Wemby was visibly emotional, and for good reasons. Fans serenaded him from the moment the Spurs arrived in France, and after leading the French to a silver medal in the 2024 Olympics, Wembanyama has all but solidified himself as France's chosen son.

After the 136-98 loss to the Pacers on Saturday, Chris Paul made sure younger fans and reporters understood what they were working with when it comes to Wembanyama.

"We wish we could have won both games for him, but you guys are going to be lucky for a long time to be able to follow Vic, so you guys make sure you not only take care of him, but treasure him," he said.

For younger fans, Wembanyama's impact might not already be apparent, but for fans who have been following basketball for longer, it's clear that the league has not seen a player with this level of influence both on and off the court, and at only 21 years old, there's no telling just how good he can be.
