Spurs Have Been Conservative In Trade Pursuit Of Kevin Durant

While the San Antonio Spurs are having talks with the Phoenix Suns about a potential Kevin Durant trade, nothing is close as of this moment, per Sam Amick and Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic.

In fact, at this point, the Spurs have taken a cautious approach to talks. According to multiple reports, San Antonio is among three teams on Durant’s so-called “wish list.” The Miami Heat and Houston Rockets are the others.

“The Rockets and Suns have had meaningful discussions about a deal,” Amick and Krawczynski wrote, citing team sources. “Houston has a firm offer on the table but Phoenix, to this point, has been seriously underwhelmed by it.

“The Spurs, league sources say, have been conservative in their pursuit of Durant.”

One thing’s for certain: the Spurs sure have the assets to make a splash — though anyone will tell you their No. 2 overall draft pick isn’t likely in play. At least not in a deal with the Suns.

Durant turns 37 in September. He averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists for the Suns this season in 62 games while shooting 52.7% from the field, 43.0% from beyond the arc and 83.9% from the free-throw line.

A top 75 player of all time, Durant has career averages of 27.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.4 assists with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Golden State Warriors, Brooklyn Nets and Suns.

Durant won the 2014 MVP Award with the Thunder and back-to-back titles and Finals MVPs with the Warriors in 2017 and 2018.
