Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs were in action on Tuesday night. They faced the defending champions, the Oklahoma City Thunder, in a road game at Paycom Center.
The Spurs entered the contest after a tough 104-103 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday. Wembanyama went off in that one, registering a game-high 29 points on 8-of-18 shooting, seven rebounds, an assist, three steals and three triples in 29 minutes of action.
San Antonio was looking to get back to winning ways against an OKC side riding a three-game winning streak. The Spurs, second in the West with a 27-12 record, headed into the matchup 5.5 games behind the No. 1 seed Thunder (33-7).
Wembanyama entered Tuesday’s game with 499 career blocks. He swatted away Chet Holmgren’s three-point attempt from the corner at the nine-minute mark of the second quarter. It was a special moment for the 22-year-old as Wembanyama made NBA history again.
The Spurs took to social media to announce his latest career milestone.
“Congrats to @wemby on 500 career blocks! He is the second-youngest player in NBA history to have 500 blocks and fourth-fastest ever to 500 at 143 games,” the team posted on X.

Wembanyama, 22, sits behind Josh Smith, who reached the 500-mark at just 21 years of age.
Unfortunately for Wembanyama and the Spurs, they did not have enough on Tuesday to defeat the Thunder. OKC secured a dominant win, 119-98, behind Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s 34-point performance. Wembanyama finished with 17 points and seven rebounds.
San Antonio will be back in action on Thursday. They will return home to host Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks, with tip-off from Frost Bank Center scheduled for 8:00 p.m. ET.
