Spurs Sign RJ Davis, Set Camp Roster

The Spurs have put out a press release officially announcing their 21-man roster for training camp. In addition to the 20 players we already knew about, that group includes former UNC guard RJ Davis, who is listed as a camp invitee.

Davis signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Lakers last July after going undrafted out of North Carolina and spent his rookie season with the South Bay Lakers, Los Angeles’ G League affiliate. In 49 appearances at the NBAGL level, the 6’0″ guard averaged 18.4 points, 4.9 assists, and 3.8 rebounds in 29.6 minutes per game, posting a strong shooting line of .468/.424/.864. The performance earned him a spot on the G League’s All-Rookie team.

After spending last season with the Lakers’ G League squad, Davis suited up for San Antonio’s Summer League team in July and subsequently had his NBAGL returning rights traded to the Austin Spurs.

In all likelihood, he signed an Exhibit 10 contract with San Antonio, which will put him in line to receive a bonus worth up to $91K on top of his standard G League base salary if he’s waived and then spends at least 60 days with Austin this season.

Davis is one of four Spurs camp invitees on non-guaranteed deals, joining Jon Elmore, Taelon Peter, and Malik Williams. San Antonio is also carrying 14 players on standard guaranteed contracts and three on two-way contracts.
