Spurs stars comfort JJ Redick's sons in wake of L.A. wildfires

Lakers head coach JJ Redick was among the many people who lost their homes in the devastating Pacific Palisades wildfires. While it was a rented property, Redick revealed Monday that he and his family lost certain valuables that can never be replaced.

Among those valuables were sports memorabilia treasured by his two sons, Knox and Kai. After the Lakers' 126-102 loss to the Spurs on Monday, Redick's sons regained some of that memorabilia in the form of autographed jerseys from Chris Paul and Victor Wembanyama.

Paul and Wemby made it a point to walk over to Redick's sons and hand them their game-worn jerseys.

After the game, Redick thanked Paul and Wemby for their generosity.

"Chris is like a brother to me," Redick said of his former Clippers teammate. "...He called me this afternoon and said, 'Whether we win or you win, Vic [Wemby] and I are gonna go over and give your boys our jerseys. He's well aware that they're huge NBA fans — all of their basketball cards [were destroyed]."

Redick revealed that, when he ran a podcast from his home for two years, his sons were the biggest beneficiaries as they would routinely get to meet NBA stars and grab their autographed jerseys and cards.

"They had a collection of jerseys and cards," Redick added. "They lost all that. So, it was nice of them [Spurs stars] to do it."

Despite Monday's loss, the Lakers had every reason to feel upbeat as they crossed the first threshold of bringing basketball back to the city after a six-day layoff due to the wildfires. According to multiple reports, the Lakers worked closely with the NBA, state officials and the Spurs to ensure Monday's game went ahead as scheduled — intending to proffer hope to a ravaged community. That's why Monday's game was dedicated to the L.A. community and the first responders who worked tirelessly over the past week to provide relief from the wildfires that killed at least 24 people and destroyed over 12,000 structures.
