Spurs center Victor Wembanyama may not be done growing, and he appears to be back on the court.
The 7-foot-4 phenom, who missed the latter part of the 2024-25 season due to a blood clot issue, recently worked out with fellow Frenchman and NBA Draft prospect Maxime Raynaud, per Jeff Garcia of KENS5. Chief among them: Wembanyama’s health, his evolving physique, and, somehow, his height.
Raynaud, listed at 7-foot-1 and coming off a strong season at Stanford, looked up — literally — at Wembanyama during the session, Garcia reported. A Spurs fan even went so far as to measure the difference and claimed Wembanyama is nearing 7-foot-7. Yes, seven-foot-seven. No, it doesn’t seem possible. But here we are.
What is possible: Wembanyama returning to form, if not better. The reigning Rookie of the Year appeared more muscular in the workout footage and seemed fully engaged, even taking time to square off against Raynaud in a game of chess afterward. (No word on who won, but if height played a factor, chalk one up for Wemby.)
Raynaud, meanwhile, remains an intriguing draft prospect. While some mock drafts project the Stanford product as a late first-round pick or early second-rounder, the Spurs — who hold picks Nos. 2 and 14 — could have decisions to make. No. 14 may be a bit rich for Raynaud’s current stock, but San Antonio could look to maneuver into the second round or grab him if he slips. Depth behind Wembanyama and Zach Collins is a known area of need.
And chemistry? Already in place. Raynaud and Wemby are longtime friends, and insiders suggest the towering tandem could coexist on the court and in the locker room. That may be worth something in a rebuild centered around Wembanyama — who, again, might somehow still be growing.
