Steph Curry agrees to take significant pay cut

Curry was eligible to earn an additional $20 million in salary but opted to leave the money on the table, giving the Warriors more salary cap flexibility heading into the next couple of seasons.

With Curry taking less money, Golden State figures to have enough cap room to sign a player to a max contract next offseason or add on multiple high-level players on lesser deals.

Curry, entering his age-38 season, has hardly slowed down despite approaching 40. But the clock is ticking for the Warriors to build one more contender around their franchise face before he retires.

Curry may have been inspired by reigning NBA Finals MVP Jalen Brunson, who took less money and allowed his New York Knicks to keep their core intact. San Antonio Spurs phenom Victor Wembanyama similarly took a pay cut earlier this offseason.
