Steph Curry excited for the Warriors 'starting at ground zero again'

After five consecutive trips to the NBA Finals, the Golden State Warriors fell off a cliff last season, having the worst record in the Western Conference and earning the second pick in the draft. Steph Curry, who missed most of the season after breaking his hand, admitted that it was a bit of a relief not going through the difficult effort it takes to be a perennial contender and that he looks forward to now trying to compete in what looks to be a very competitive playoff race this season.

"To kind of have a fresh reset from the five-year run was -- I wouldn't call it necessary because I would have loved to have been playing last year, but it was useful," Curry said during an interview with "Damon, Ratto & Kolsky" on KGMZ-FM 95.7 The Game. "And now it's about turning that into momentum coming in this season. And I think a leader, and with me [and] Draymond [Green] and what we have to accomplish this year, hopefully gives us a little chip on our shoulder, a fresh perspective, and understanding what the challenge is ahead of us. We've had a lot of successes, a lot of experiences these last five years, [it's] been a crazy roller coaster. It almost feels like we're starting at ground zero again which is kind of awesome."

Head coach Steve Kerr has expressed similar sentiments, saying that the fatigue was definitely beginning to set in for the Warriors due to their lengthy stay at the top of the league and that last season may have been an unexpected blessing for everyone on the team.

But the team will look very different than the roster that was on the court against the Toronto Raptors in the 2019 Finals. Kevin Durant left Golden State to team up with Kyrie Irving in Brooklyn last offseason and Klay Thompson is set to miss the upcoming season after suffering a torn right Achilles tendon. While Curry remains one of the most dangerous shooters in NBA history, some wonder if the Warriors really have the talent to keep up in the loaded Western Conference.
