While NBA franchises retool their rosters in preparation for the 2025-26 season, an unexpected subplot emerged on the golf course.
Over the last week, Los Angeles Lakers' LeBron James went viral after sharing footage of his admittedly unpolished swings, prompting playful reactions across social media.
Now, two days after Stephen Curry publicly welcomed James to the links, the Golden State Warriors’ sharpshooter officially kicked off his own summer golf hype with an Instagram post Monday.
In the new post, he wrote, "Love spending time on the links. Golf summer coming my way! " alongside a video of himself in full swing.
On July 4, James uploaded a series of short videos to his Instagram account, showing the 40-year‑old icon at the tee trying out golf swings for only the second time.
Donning a striped polo on a sun‑baked fairway, James playfully lobbed drives that veered off‑line, prompting fans to joke that he might have more mastery on the basketball court than the back nine.
The clip immediately took off.
Within hours, it amassed millions of views and sparked memes comparing James’s athletic grace to his nascent golfing form.
Curry, no stranger to the fairway, wrote under James' post, "Welcome. We’ve been waiting for you."
On the court, Curry has put together one of the most impressive resumes in history, boasting four NBA championships, two league MVPs, a 2022 Finals MVP, 11 All-Star nods and 11 All-NBA selections.
He also won two FIBA World Cup gold medals, a 2024 Olympic gold medal and remains the NBA's all-time 3-point leader (4,058).
Off the court, Curry has been known for his passion for golf.
He started playing at just 10 years old and frequently competes in celebrity golf tournaments.
In 2023, Curry won the American Century Championship in Lake Tahoe, famously sinking an eagle on the final hole and making the fifth hole‑in‑one in tournament history.
