Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry has not played since Jan. 30, when he exited a game against the Detroit Pistons with right knee soreness later diagnosed as patellofemoral pain syndrome, commonly known as runner’s knee. The injury has sidelined him for nine consecutive games, and he is expected to be reevaluated soon as part of a cautious recovery plan.

Before going down, Curry had appeared in 39 games this season, averaging 27.2 points, 3.5 rebounds and 4.8 assists. His absence has been significant for a Warriors team currently holding the eighth seed in the Western Conference.

During this stretch without him, Golden State has dropped five games, underscoring how vital he remains to their playoff positioning and overall offensive structure.

While working his way back, Curry has stayed active off the court promoting “GOAT,” an animated sports film he co-produced and in which he voices a character. The movie, released in February, centers on an undersized goat named Will Harris chasing his dream in a fictional sport called roarball.

Curry voices Lenny Williamson, a veteran star in the league. The cast also features Caleb McLaughlin, Gabrielle Union, Jennifer Hudson and his wife Ayesha Curry. The film has performed well commercially, surpassing $100 million worldwide at the box office and generating strong family attendance.

On Friday, Curry posted a video on Instagram showing him surprising fans at a theater screening of GOAT. The clip captured children reacting with excitement as Curry entered the auditorium, taking photos and sharing brief words of encouragement tied to the film’s themes of belief and perseverance.

“I’ve been hearing from everyone seeing GOAT in theaters so I had to go check the energy myself. Thank you to everybody who’s come out to watch. Hopefully you leave feeling inspired and ready to believe in yourself like never before,” Curry captioned the post.

Curry’s outreach comes as the Warriors await clarity on his return timeline, with early March viewed as a realistic target if his reevaluation goes well. Golden State remains in the playoff mix, and his return would provide a major lift as the regular season winds down.

The organization continues to monitor his knee closely, understanding that their postseason hopes hinge largely on having their franchise cornerstone healthy when it matters most.
