Golden State Warriors point guard Steph Curry has been dealing with a right thumb injury for a few weeks. The two-time MVP and one-time Finals MVP has his thumb in a wrap during games.
The Warriors play the Minnesota Timberwolves in the second round of the playoffs. Curry and Co. beat the Houston Rockets in the first round in seven games. Golden State only had one day off between Game 7 of the Rockets series and Game 1 of the Timberwolves series.
While speaking to reporters after shootaround on Monday, Curry was asked about his thumb injury. The future Hall of Famer said his thumb is in a great place heading into the Timberwolves series, but he admitted it hurts when defenders hit it.
Curry averaged 24.0 points, 5.9 rebounds and 5.7 assists in the Rockets series while shooting 47.1% from the field, 39.2% from beyond the arc and 89.3% from the free-throw line.
A four-time champion, Curry has never played the Timberwolves in the playoffs before. The guard will be going against his Team USA teammate from last summer, Minnesota All-Star guard Anthony Edwards.
The Timberwolves eliminated LeBron James, Luka Doncic and the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round in five quick games.
Curry is looking to win his fifth championship with the Warriors, who have won titles in 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2022 in the Curry era. The Timberwolves are the betting favorite in the Warriors series, but Curry, Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler have tons of postseason experience.
An 11-time All-Star, Curry could have been drafted by the Timberwolves in the 2009 NBA Draft. However, Minnesota took Ricky Rubio with the fifth pick and Jonny Flynn with the sixth pick, allowing the Warriors to select Curry with the seventh pick.
