The Golden State Warriors entered the season hoping to return to title contention behind Steph Curry, Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler.
But through 29 games, the team sits below .500 and has struggled with consistency on both ends of the floor, barely staying above .500 in games against teams from their conference (11-10).
Golden State picked up a 119–116 win over the Phoenix Suns on Saturday to move to 14–15, but that's still not enough to rank above the play-in spots in the Western Conference.
The win over Phoenix, sitting right above the Warriors with a 15-13 record, offered a bit of relief from the growing questions surrounding the Warriors’ short-term options and long-term future.
NBA legend Charles Barkley chimed in and added his view to the conversation this week in an appearance on "The Tom Tolbert Show."

“They had one of the greatest runs in NBA history but it’s over. They’re just old. Steph is on the Mount Rushmore but he gonna keep breaking down. I don’t think Jimmy is the same player and Draymond definitely not the same player”… pic.twitter.com/ZDCyio28ZY
"Oh, Oh, over the hill, that's where they are. You know where the hell they are, Tom," Barkley said. "Hey, hey, listen. They had one of the greatest runs in NBA history, but it’s over, man. They just old."
The 62-year-old Hall of Famer has doubted Golden State's chances at another title, most recently at the start of December in an "NBA on TNT" segment.
"I don’t believe in the Warriors," Barkley said. "But they’re cute, and they’re fun to watch."
With the Warriors battling to stay in the play-in mix through the early portion of the season, currently sitting eighth in the West, Barkley pointed to the physical decline of its core, led by Steph Curry.
"Steph is on the Mount Rushmore. But he’s going to keep breaking down because of age and wear and tear," Barkley said. "I don’t think Jimmy is the same player, and Draymond’s definitely not the same player."
Barkley went on to question the team’s ability to compete in a much faster, more athletic conference packed full of contenders in one of the strongest fields of teams in NBA history, noting how age might prevent the Warriors from winning another title in the Curry era.
"Everybody gets old. There’s nothing you can do about it," Barkley said. "They just got old."
Golden State will try to reach .500 when they host the Orlando Magic at 10 p.m. ET Monday.
