Steph Curry, Warriors Finalize Team-Friendly Contract Extension

Golden State presented Curry with several contract options in recent weeks, according to ESPN, including max deals, discounted salaries for team-building upside and waiting until the season or offseason. Ultimately, Curry took $20.7 million less than his maximum salary, accepting a deal that now gives the Warriors significant cap space next summer.

Curry, who turns 39 next March, is entering his 18th season in the NBA. He has spent his entire career with the Warriors, winning four championships and earning two MVP awards. Had an extension not been reached, he would have become a free agent next summer, opening the door for speculation about his future.

Widely regarded as the greatest shooter in NBA history, Curry is coming off a season in which he averaged 26.6 points and 4.7 assists over 43 games. The star point guard missed more than two months due to persistent right knee issues, which remain an ongoing concern.

The Warriors went 37-45 and fell just short in the Play-In Tournament last year, missing the playoffs for the second time in three seasons. They are entering the 2026-27 campaign with a very similar roster after a quiet offseason, surrounding Curry with a veteran-heavy supporting cast that includes Draymond Green, Jimmy Butler and Kristaps Porzingis.

Curry’s extension brings his career on-court earnings to $652 million, making him the first player to eclipse $600 million in NBA history.
