Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry played in just his second game back following a two-month injury absence. The 38-year-old was back on the court for Tuesday night’s matchup against the Sacramento Kings.
Curry came off the bench again, but he made an immediate impact on the game with two four-point plays in the opening quarter. The former back-to-back NBA MVP finished with 17 points on 5-of-12 shooting, five rebounds, two assists, a steal and four three-pointers in 25 minutes of action.
More importantly, Curry helped lead Golden State to a 110-105 win over the Kings. This marked the Warriors’ first win in four games.
The Warriors improved to 37-42 after Tuesday’s win. However, it had no impact in terms of their final standing in the Western Conference.
In fact, Golden State officially locked in the No. 10 seed in the West on Tuesday night. This is after the Los Angeles Clippers secured a 116-103 win over the Dallas Mavericks.
The Warriors have been sitting on the 10th seed for weeks now. They still had a chance to improve to ninth, but this required the Los Angeles Clippers to lose all four of their remaining games. L.A.’s win over Dallas on Tuesday means that the Warriors will officially head into the play-in tournament as the No. 10 seed.
Curry and Co. will now need to win two play-in games on the road next week in order to secure a spot in the playoffs. If they win both contests, the Warriors will enter the postseason as the No. 8 seed. A loss, however, will mark the end of the campaign for them.
Golden State still has three games left in the regular season before the play-in tournament. Their next game is on Thursday against the Los Angeles Lakers.
