Mike D'Antoni is widely considered the favorite to become the next head coach for the Philadelphia 76ers, but ESPN's Stephen A. Smith believes the team would be better off hiring a different former Western Conference coach who was just bounced in the second round of the playoffs.
"I don't want to hear a damn word about Mike D'Antonio being the next head coach of the Philadelphia 76ers." Smith said on "Get Up." "You want a new coach, you call Doc Rivers. There's no way... [D'Antoni] never been to a Finals. You don't sit up there and pass up Doc Rivers to get D'Antoni, who is allergic to defense and is allergic to anybody who doesn't shoot threes, which is not Ben Simmons."
Since he parted ways with Houston following a five-game series loss to the Lakers, D'Antoni has been heavily linked to Philadelphia, who fired Brett Brown after being swept by the Boston Celtics in the first round. However, Rivers was let go by the Clippers Monday, and it has been reported that the 76ers are open to talking to him about their head coaching position.
.@stephenasmith thinks Doc Rivers should be the next 76ers head coach.

Whoever takes over the 76ers will need to revive a team that appeared to have lost its way this season, ultimately resulting in an embarrassing first-round exit. The key to the success will likely be figuring out how to maximize the potential of Simmons and Joel Embiid as teammates, as they have struggled to find a rhythm despite being two of the most talented young players in the NBA.
