Stephen A. Smith gives wild take on Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant joining Nets over Knicks

Stephen A. Smith has never been one to bite his tongue over the decision Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant made to join the Brooklyn Nets. Even years removed from that decision, and a few trades/big decisions by both players, he's still willing to call out both players for choosing the Nets — specifically over the New York Knicks.

During a recent appearance on "The Bill Simmons Podcast," Smith unloaded on the duo and specifically called them out for the money they lost, in his opinion, by opting to sign with the Nets instead of the Knicks.

As Let's Talk Knicks found and revealed on Twitter, Smith said he believes Irving and Durant cost themselves about half a billion dollars from that decision alone in off-court opportunities.

It's an incredibly bold take, especially considering that while there may be more off-court opportunities for a member of the Knicks, attempting to gauge where they would have made that much more money would be an incredibly tall task.

Not surprisingly, a number of fans and analysts jumped all over this statement, including Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News, who responded by first stating, "Okay, no." And proceeded to point out that while Irving may have cost himself money that "no sponsor is paying them an extra $500 million because they play for the Knicks."
