Stephen Curry comments on his first All-Star starter snub since 2014

The last time a healthy Stephen Curry didn't start in an All-Star Game, Barack Obama was POTUS, Kevin Durant was still a member of the Oklahoma City Thunder and TikTok didn’t exist.

On Thursday, the "Inside the NBA" on TNT crew announced that Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Luka Doncic were chosen ahead of Curry as the Western Conference starting guards for next month’s All-Star game in Indianapolis.

When asked to comment on his first All-Star starter snub in a decade, Curry – class personified, as per usual – had nothing but praise for his two younger contemporaries, both of whom are averaging career-best averages across the board.

"You got two guys that are playing amazing this year, Luka and Shai," Curry told reporters, via ClutchPoints. "So, I’ve been around, doing this for a very long time and the fact that it’s a talking point I’m not [an All-Star starter] after nine healthy years…Those two guys are playing amazing.

"They deserve it,” Curry continued. “Hopefully I’m there in Indiana in whatever capacity. But yeah, to still be doing it at this stage, it’s always a challenge. You don’t ever take for granted the fact that how hard it is to be recognized in that way every year."

Curry started in every All-Star Game between 2014 and 2023 with the exception of 2020 when he missed most of the season with a hand injury.

This year, Curry was once again on pace to start in the All-Star Game, beating SGA in the fan votes and trailing only Doncic for second place. However, the legendary shooter finished third and fourth in the player and media vote, respectively, both behind Anthony Edwards.

SGA and Doncic will start for the Western Conference alongside captain LeBron James, reigning Finals MVP Nikola Jokic and Phoenix Suns forward Durant.

The All-Star reserves -- selected by the 30 NBA coaches -- will be revealed on Thursday, Feb. 1 at 7 p.m. ET. Curry and Edwards are pretty much locks to be named as the two reserve guards out West.
