Saturday night was far from Stephen Curry's best individual performance. The Golden State Warriors superstar heavily underdelivered as the team dropped a tough 118-108 contest to LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers.
Curry's shooting was atrocious in this game. The future Hall of Fame inductee finished the contest with only 13 points while shooting 4-17 from the field. Curry was even held entirely scoreless in the second half.
One reporter thought to question how much the thumb was affecting the game of the All-Star point guard at the postgame press conference. Curry did not want to absolve himself of accountability.
"It sucks, but it's not an excuse for anything," the two-time NBA MVP explained. "You got to play through it. I went eight for eight with it [against the Philadelphia 76ers], and it's just something that's been lingering to this point. It gets hit every once in a while. It's one of those things that's almost gone, and then it gets knocked again, so I'll deal with it, but it shouldn't bother me like it did tonight."
Curry continued: "I think every time it gets hit, it's like a step back, but it's just annoying. Obviously, I'm going to play through it, but I was joking [about it] with one of our doctors tonight. I didn't even want to mention it because right as soon as it gets 100 percent, it gets knocked again. But again, not an excuse, ... I'll try not to worry about [it] when I'm out there, but hopefully, it'll clear up sooner than later."
Curry is also dealing with maintenance on knee tendonitis at the moment. The 36-year-old, who is less than two months from turning 37, is starting to show his age in terms of the way his body is getting banged up.
