Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry couldn't help but express how happy he was after hearing the news about his father, Dell Curry. The Charlotte Hornets announced that the older Curry's No. 30 jersey will be retired by the franchise on March 19. The NBA's all-time 3-point leader's father had an unforgettable time with the team.
In Dell Curry's 16-year NBA career, he spent 10 seasons with the Hornets. During his time with the team, he was a productive role player and even won the 1994 Sixth Man of the Year. The former athlete was part of four postseason runs with the Hornets.
He averaged 14.0 points and 2.9 rebounds for the franchise.
Ahead of the Warriors' game against the New York Knicks on Thursday, Steph Curry had a message about how proud his family was following the Hornets' decision.
“It is a dream come true for the whole Curry family,” the NBA star said. “Curry and Charlotte are kinda synonymous, and the originator, Dell Curry, had a lot to do with that. Blessed that 30 is gonna be immortalized in rafters forever.”

The older Curry has served as a color commentator for the Hornets since 2009.
After the Hornets announced their decision to honor their former player, he had a virtual interview with Mike Solarte of Spectrum News Charlotte. Whether Curry contracts with the Hornets, Solarte wondered whether there was any chance he would let his oldest son wear his jersey number.
The older Curry didn't hesitate and revealed that he's open to the idea.
"He already asked me that," the former Hornets player said. "That was a quick yeah. We'd take it down for that, no doubt."
