Stephen Curry Sets The Record Straight On His NBA Return Date

In a recent chat with the media, Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry spoke candidly about the state of his injury recovery for the 2025 playoffs. After suffering a hamstring injury in Game 1 against the Timberwolves, Curry spoke up on his healing process and if he has a specific return date in mind.

“No," said Curry on a return date. "This is new, and from all that I’m learning about how quickly you can get back, there has to be a healing process. That's how the body works. You can’t accelerate it more than what it's telling you. It will be one of those. After a week, we'll be reevaluating every day to understand when it's safe to even think about playing, let alone how much can you push it."

Curry, 37, has dealt with all sorts of problems, ranging from his ankle to his knee. Over the years, Steph has dealt with injuries of varying severity, but he managed to get through them all to build one of the greatest careers in modern NBA history. Today, as a 4x champion, 2x MVP, and 11x All-Star, Steph continues to be among the NBA elite, and his presence is the only thing that gives the Warriors a fighting chance for the title.

So when Curry went down with his latest injury on Tuesday, fans remained hopeful that he'd be able to return and help the Warriors finish the series. According to Curry, it's the first hamstring injury he's ever had, and he has no idea how long the recovery process will be.

For most grade 1 hamstring strains, treatment takes at least one week with the proper medication, rest, and physical therapy. For Steph, who has never experienced this type of discomfort before, it could take longer before he feels like he's ready for NBA playoff action.

At this stage of his career, Curry is not rushing to return from injury, and he will not risk his NBA future by skipping steps to his return. With so much on the line, it must be tempting for Steph to want to be there for his team, but the best thing he can do now is rest his body and do everything he can to return to full strength while the series is still on.

Without Steph in the lineup, the Warriors won't have a chance to win this series, but Curry's play makes them a formidable opponent. With averages of 22.6 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 5.1 assists in the playoffs so far, Curry has been critical to the Warriors' recent success, and he's the sole reason they have a chance to advance to the third and final stage of the Western playoff bracket.
