Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry did not participate in the 3-Point Contest in this year’s NBA All-Star Weekend. But the competition from this year’s edition encouraged him to commit early to the 2027 All-Star Weekend in Phoenix. After Portland Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard won his third title, it sparked Curry to join and play for his third.

Although Lillard did not play a single game this season since he’s rehabbing from a torn Achilles tendon, he still accepted the invite. His injury did not bother him as he beat Phoenix Suns star Devin Booker in the final round and sealed his name in the history books as the third player to have three 3-Point Contest championships , along with Larry Bird and Craig Hodges.

During Stephen Curry’s appearance on NBC ahead of the All-Star Game on Sunday, he told former stars Carmelo Anthony, Vince Carter and Tracy McGrady that he’ll participate next season.

“One hundred percent,” the four-time champion said. ““I already scheduled it.”

Fans were further convinced when Lillard posted the text exchange he had with Curry on his Instagram stories.

“Next year…. Me, you, klay, book, and 4 more real shooters,” Lillard texted.

“Yessir I’m in. Know Klay will do it iif I ask and book will be at home. Perfect setup,” Curry replied.

How many 3-Point Contest titles has Stephen Curry won?

The all-time leader in 3-pointers made is no stranger to the long-range contest during All-Star Weekend. Stephen Curry has joined the event seven times in his career, but has only won it twice. The first time he won the competition was in 2015. The Warriors guard went up against a stacked lineup that featured James Harden, JJ Redick, Marco Belinelli, Kyle Korver, Wesley Matthews, Kyrie Irving and his former teammate, Klay Thompson.

In 2016, he tried to defend his title, but Thompson had the hot hand that year. He won again in 2021, beating Devin Booker, Mike Conley Jr., Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Donovan Mitchell and Zach LaVine.

Next year, fans will see him take the stage with the league’s best shooters.
