Stephen Curry once spoke glowingly about the Golden State Warriors’ next generation, but time has not been kind to that vision.

In early 2022, Stephen Curry expressed confidence that Jordan Poole, Jonathan Kuminga, and James Wiseman would become the long-term foundation of the Warriors once the veteran core moved on.

Just a few years later, none of the three remain with the franchise, and their careers have unfolded in ways few would have predicted.

What Stephen Curry predicted in early 2022

When Curry made his comments in February 2022, the Warriors were still in the middle of the season and had not yet completed what would later become their championship run.

Asked to look ahead during his interview with GQ, Curry outlined an ambitious vision for the team’s future.

“Curry, for his part, dreams of a future five years from now where Poole is an all-star, Kuminga is an all-defensive player, and Wiseman is an MVP candidate.”

At the time, the optimism reflected widespread belief that the Warriors had successfully blended proven stars with a new wave of talent.

How Poole, Kuminga, and Wiseman actually fared

Jordan Poole played a key role in the Warriors’ 2022 championship, but his standing with the team deteriorated following a training camp altercation with Draymond Green later that year.

Golden State traded Poole to the Washington Wizards in 2023, where he failed to reach the same level, before another move to the New Orleans Pelicans in June 2025, where he has struggled to make a significant impact.

Jonathan Kuminga showed flashes during his early seasons but never secured a consistent role under Steve Kerr, eventually requesting a trade and being sent to the Atlanta Hawks on February 4 as part of a deal for Kristaps Porzingis.

James Wiseman’s trajectory proved the most disappointing, as the former number two overall pick never carved out a stable role despite being part of the championship roster.

After stints with the Detroit Pistons and Indiana Pacers, multiple waivers, and a brief 10-day contract that ended on December 26, 2025, Wiseman is no longer in the NBA.

Together, the three paths stand in stark contrast to Curry’s hopeful outlook and underline how even confident projections can age poorly in the league.
