Stephon Marbury blames LeBron James, Anthony Davis for Lakers' recent shortcomings

Stephon Marbury is one of the most unique superstars in basketball history.

After being a highly-touted high schooler and college player, Marbury went on to have a solid but somewhat underwhelming NBA career.

Just when it seemed like the story on his career was written, he went to China and became an international hoops icon.

Because of the various highs and lows Marbury experienced throughout his career, he is uniquely qualified to speak on various basketball happenings. And that’s precisely what he did this week when he delved into the dynamic on the Los Angeles Lakers between LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook.

As far as Marbury is concerned, the Lakers’ failings in 2021-22 fell more at the feet of James and Davis than they did Westbrook’s.

“Who’s gonna make the adjustment?” he said on the Ryen Russillo Podcast.

“The best player is supposed to make the adjustments. You gotta allow Russell to be able to do what he does if you’re saying that you want him to come here because you watched him play, you’ve seen him play, you’ve played against him.

“LeBron and Davis, them guys know what Russell Westbrook was before he got here. You can’t be that smart of a basketball player and not know who you’re getting, who you’re going to be playing with. Who’s making the adjustment? It can’t be blamed on Russell Westbrook.”

Marbury is not alone in this way of thinking.

It will be interesting to see how the Lakers choose to handle this Westbrook situation.

Currently, L.A. is being linked to three trades. A Plan A deal, a Plan B deal and a Plan C deal.

In almost all of those scenarios, Westbrook has no place on the Lakers in 2022-23.

Will any of those trades materialize? Will Westbrook be playing in a different uniform come next season?
