Steve Kerr addresses potential Draymond Green trade

The Golden State Warriors are in a tough spot right now, and breaking up their core might be the only way to get out of it.

They're reportedly in the driver's seat to get Giannis Antetokounmpo, which means a veteran will have to go for salary-matching purposes.

And, with GM Mike Dunleavy Jr. committed to Jimmy Butler, it looks like Draymond Green's time in the Bay Area might be coming to an end.

While that never seemed like a realistic possibility, Steve Kerr's latest words make it sound like the former Defensive Player of the Year will be on his way out.

Steve Kerr admits Draymond Green could be traded

“[Draymond and I] have talked [about the trade rumors],“ Kerr said on 95.7 The Fan. “I think what's really tricky for Draymond is this is the only place he's ever known. He's going to have a statue outside the building someday. Really weird position for him to be in for sure because there's never really been a time in his entire career where he even had to think about putting on another jersey. He's never been through this and it's definitely been on his mind.“

The Warriors have always had Green's back. They have refused to suspend him despite his many on and off-court altercations with opponents and even members of the organization.

His numbers may not scream Hall of Fame, but his resume does, and he's undeniably one of the five greatest players in franchise history.

Even so, the Warriors need to do what's right for the greatest shooter alive, and they should always strive to field a competitive team for as long as Stephen Curry is there.

This might be their last shot at a championship in the Curry era, and while moving on from Green will be a tough decision for the front office, they may have no choice.
