The Sacramento Kings have a new head coach – and maybe brighter days are finally ahead for the team.

Over the weekend, it was announced that former Los Angeles Lakers and Cleveland Cavaliers coach Mike Brown was selected as the squad’s new HC.

The move is a big one because the Kings desperately need a new direction after years of floundering at the bottom of the Western Conference standings.

Brown already has a few fans within the league – including Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr.

Brown has been an associated head coach under Kerr for a few years now and Kerr couldn’t be happier with the work he’s done.

Said Kerr, per Mark Haynes:

“I don’t even know where to begin. What Mike has done for me, for this organization in his six years here, he’s made an incredible contribution. He’s an amazing coach, amazing friends, and Sacramento made a great choice.”

With the number of wins and championships under his belt, Kerr’s opinion should definitely matter to NBA fans.

Struggling Sac

The Kings haven’t made a postseason since the 2005-06 season.

That’s an awfully long time, the largest playoff drought in the history of the league in fact.

Since then, multiple coaches have come and gone, most recently Alvin Gentry and Luke Walton.

It’s obvious that an entire restructuring of the team is necessary if they want to succeed.

Everything about the Kings needs to change and Brown is already very aware of that.

He has a huge task ahead of himself and it won’t be an easy one.

But he obviously feels like he has some chance of making progress with the team and the front office is seemingly happy with his plans.

As for fans of the Kings, they are waiting eagerly to see what happens next.
