Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards woke up on Monday feeling dangerous.
The high-scoring forward exploded in the third quarter to lift the Timberwolves past the Golden State Warriors in Game 4, 117-110, and take a comfortable 3-1 lead in their second-round series.
Edwards scored 17 of his 30 points in the third period, including three three-pointers, to lead a pivotal 17-0 run that took the fight out of Golden State. He's now tallied back-to-back 30-point outings.
He got ample support from Julius Randle, who had a game-high 31 points, and Rudy Gobert, who finished with a double-double of 10 points and 13 rebounds.
When asked about the 23-year-old Edwards after the game, Warriors coach Steve Kerr was generous with his assessment.
"I think the last couple of summers have been great for him with USA Basketball," said Kerr in the media conference. "You know, working out every day with all those guys.
"(Timberwolves coach) Chris (Finch) has done a great job with him, with that team. It's a natural progression for Anthony to be doing what he's doing, given how talented he is and how good of a shooter he is."
The four-time champion coach admitted that Edwards, who led the league in three-pointers made this season, has been a major headache for Golden State.
“He hit some really tough threes tonight," added Kerr, who was also a known shooter during his playing days. "The one at the end of the first half was incredible.
"He’s a great player. So that’s the challenge — we have to try and slow him down in Game 5.”
Edwards is averaging 27.3 points on 41.2% three-point shooting, 7.8 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game in their best-of-seven matchup with the Warriors.
The Timberwolves will look to advance to the conference finals for the second straight time in Game 5 on Wednesday.
