The Golden State Warriors are headed to the second round of the playoffs after defeating the Houston Rockets 103-89 in Game 7 to advance. The Warriors nearly blew a 3-1 series lead, but their performance in the winner-takes-all final game is all that will be remembered as they prepare to face the Minnesota Timberwolves next.
Draymond Green has been a crucial starter for the Warriors for over a decade. Green's aggressive style can galvanize the Warriors, but it also can end up hurting them, as it did in Game 6 when his aggressive fouling all game set the Warriors up for failure.
In the post-game press conference, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr reflected on Green's Game 6 performance and admitted his changed attitude for Game 7 set the tone for the Warriors and allowed them to win the most important game of the series.
"Draymond set the tone last night in the team meeting. He basically owned up to losing his poise in Game 6. I agreed with him. I thought his flagrant foul four minutes into the game was a tone-setter. He knew. He talked to the group last night and said, 'I gotta be poised. I have to be better. We're going to come here tomorrow and get it done.' Just his emotional stability and voice tonight from the start set the tone.
Green's been manning the Warriors' backline for ages now, continuing to be the team's defensive anchor a decade after their first title win.
Green averaged 8.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.6 steals, and 1,4 blocks per game in the first round. While he shot poorly, his defensive contributions were immense.
Game 7 was a different story altogether, as Green put up 16 points, six rebounds, five assists, one steal and two blocks to pick up his fifth career series win over the Rockets.
