Steve Kerr says Golden State Warriors operating 'in offseason mode'

As injuries ravaged the Golden State Warriors throughout the 2019-20 season, head coach Steve Kerr saw his team plummet to the bottoms of the Western Conference and overall league standings before the coronavirus pandemic halted the campaign on March 11.
While league officials are hoping to complete the season during the summer or fall months, Kerr admitted he's already in offseason mode.
As ESPN's Nick Friedell wrote on Tuesday afternoon, Kerr spoke about the state of his team during a Zoom call in conjunction with the University of San Francisco:

"And in fact we had a Zoom call, (Golden State president of basketball operations) Bob Myers and I got on a Zoom with our players, our whole roster last week. And it was just a chance to check in, but it was also a chance for Bob to update the players on his contact with the league and the latest news, but it also kind of felt like our annual team exit meeting. Our coaching staff and I have been undergoing staff evaluations, offseason plans, so we are absolutely in offseason mode right now."

Kerr wasn't suggesting the current season won't be completed. Earlier this week, the Association unveiled plans for teams to potentially open facilities to players under specific guidelines in May. With the Warriors sitting at 15-50 and eliminated from playoff contention when the virus outbreak forced the season's suspension, it's easy to understand why Kerr and company are eager to put the campaign behind them as quickly as possible.

"There's still a chance the league could ask us to come back and play some games, but given what we went through this season with all the injuries and the tough record, it's been more of the case of we're staying in touch with guys but everybody is just sort of assuming that this is kind of it," Kerr said while on the Zoom call. "We're not going to be involved much anymore."
